O escultor norte americano Tom Sachs fez um vídeo do manual do empregado para os seus assistentes chamado “10 bullets”. Já o blog The Selby fez um mini documentário sobre o trabalho do Tom Sachs. Interessante observar como o discurso do “immaterial labour” está sendo discutido dentro da arte contemporânea.

On the Brink, bom documentário que eu vi aqui.

Eu costumo dizer que trabalho para o Facebook há uns 2 anos quase. Trabalho até os finais de semana. Inclusive em horários alternativos. Alimento todos os dias o meu perfil e minha rede de conexões de informações pessoais – de graça. Quando me convidam para participar de mais uma rede social nova, logo penso: mais trabalho!

Lendo este artigo aqui, descobri dois projetos novos interessantes de redes sociais alternativas. A primeira, o Chime.in promete até que uma parcela do lucro vá para você, produtor/consumidor. Diferente do Facebook, a Chime é construída a partir dos seus interesses e não dos seus amigos. Assim, você faz novos amigos através do universo que você compartilha. Claro que ninguém aqui pensou que grande parte do sucesso das redes sociais é justamente bisbilhotar a vida alheia. Afinal, curiosidade pode não matar, mas faz dinheiro.

Outra opção, boa para quem realmente entende que a grande “bola da vez” das redes é ter o controle do maior banco de dados do mundo – e fazer o que bem quiser com ele – é a Personal, que promete uma rede social mais segura, aonde o controle de dados é todo seu.

Um documentário feito por pessoas do mundo inteiro que filmaram 1 dia de suas vidas. E a inspiração para tudo isso, o projeto Mass Observation Archive, de 1937, quando não existia nem internet nem muito menos youtube.

Mass Observation aimed to record everyday life in Britain through a panel of around 500 untrained volunteer observers who either maintained diaries or replied to open-ended questionnaires. They also paid investigators to anonymously record people’s conversation and behaviour at work, on the street and at various public occasions including public meetings and sporting and religious events. Why didn’t the scene above make the final cut of The Future?

This scene was meant to make it clear that Sophie was struggling against distraction, after losing time on YouTube—we all know how alluring these distractions are, and here we are seeing her attempting to take charge. I had her rig up a grape juice booby trap. In the next scene, which is actually in the movie, you see her run past the table and her white dress is covered in grape juice, which seemed like a funny visual way of showing that she had sacrificed the dress for the internet. Except that nobody got the whole grape juice trap. I don’t think a single person understood why she was doing any of it. It just seemed like a bizarre performance in the middle of the movie. So I cut it. It’s nice to show it here, and hopefully with the cards it isn’t too mystifying. [via]

Listening to a piece by Hauschka can be deceiving: What sounds like an ensemble of musicians and instruments is just one man, performing at one piano. His real name is Volker Bertelmann, and he hails from Dusseldorf, Germany, where he works with his “prepared piano.” He wrests disruptive sounds from the instrument’s 88 keys by outfitting the strings or mallets with objects such as ping-pong balls, aluminum foil and leather. His new album is titled Foreign Landscapes, and he recently visited NPR’s studios to demonstrate his craft.
